The American Planning Association listed King Street of Alexandria and U Street of Northwest D.C.  as two of its 10 Great Streets for 2011.

Take a look at the photos above to see some great shots of King and U.

U Street is popular for its food, music, and evolving nightlife scene. And, of course, there's Ben's Chili Bowl.

King Street, in Old Town Alexandria, is a place where locals (and many tourists) gather to do business, shop, dine, explore history, or go for a simply take a stroll with a view of the Potomac River.

“King Street has been a Great Street since 1749. Through each subsequent era, King Street has successfully maintained its significance as Alexandria's commercial center and gathering place, thanks to careful planning, community involvement, and historic preservation,” said Alexandria Mayor William D. Euille.
