The Mount Vernon Multiplex Theater, which was located on Richmond Highway near the intersection with Buckman Road, has been bulldozed as part of a plan to revitalize the Route 1 corridor in the Mount Vernon area.

After much debate, Costco is expected to bring its 143,000-square-foot warehouse to the 12-acre spot next to Walmart in the spring of 2013.

There’s a lot of enthusiasm in the local area because of the countless job opportunities the warehouse will bring to route 1, and Costco’s reputation. It should be a boom to the Mt. Vernon economy. 

“This was a great opportunity to replace a vacant, blighted movie theater with a job producing retail store that has a very good reputation of paying higher wages and providing full benefits to their employees,” explained Lee District Supervisor, Jeff McKay.
