King Street Paving Project Public Meeting

The City of Alexandria is resurfacing King Street, between Strand Street and Diagonal Road.  The scope of the King Street improvement project will begin with concrete improvements to the curb and gutter, ADA accessible ramps at crosswalks, and will end with the milling and overlay of the existing pavement. Alexandria residents are invited to a public meeting about the scope and schedule of this project at 7 p.m., in Sister Cities Conference Room 1101, Alexandria City Hall, 301 King Street. Winter Weather Advisory Issued for the City of Alexandria

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, including the City of Alexandria, beginning at 4 p.m. today through 6 a.m. Wednesday. Accumulation of two to four inches of snow is possible. City crews are standing by and will respond appropriately as weather conditions warrant. Residents are advised to use caution when driving and be prepared for slippery road conditions during your afternoon commute. To report a weather-related road condition, please call 703.746.4488. DASH Welcomes New Marketing and Communications Manager

I-95 RAMP TO FAIRFAX COUNTY PARKWAY OPENS WEDNESDAY, DEC. 29

On Wednesday, Dec. 29, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will open Fairfax County Parkway Exit 166B from I-95 south to Fairfax County Parkway north, making it easier and faster for motorists heading to the Fort Belvoir North Area and other destinations in Fairfax County.

At 9 a.m. Dec, 29, crews will close the right lane on I-95 between the Springfield-Franconia Parkway (Route 7900) and the Fairfax County Parkway (Route 7100) overpass. At noon, crews will begin removing traffic control devices, and by 1:30 p.m., the exit ramp will be open to traffic.

The ramp will offer motorists two options: Fairfax County Parkway on the left, or the newly opened Heller Road on the right, which goes into the Fort Belvoir North Area. This is where the National Geospatial Agency (NGA) is located. On Tuesday, Jan. 18, the NGA will begin admitting new employees.

ALEXANDRIA — The Tysons Connector - the free midday shuttle bus service in Tysons Corner - will operate for two more weeks with its last day of service Dec. 30, 2010.  After one year of operation, ridership was not sufficient to meet minimum goals needed to viably continue the service.

Tysons Connector began in November 2009 to serve area businesses, residents, shoppers and visitors within Tysons Corner.  The service was launched to provide travel options within Tysons during construction of the Dulles Metrorail project as part of the project's comprehensive transportation management plan.

Until Dec. 30, Tysons Connector will continue to operate at 10-minute intervals between 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday within Tysons Corner.

After Dec. 30, those riders who use the Tysons Connector may be able to get around Tysons Corner by using the following routes:
