ACPS Recruiting Starts for Students in Grades Six through Nine

From Alexandria City Public Schools:

The Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program is beginning the recruitment process to include new potential AVID students in grades six through nine. January through March, parent information sessions and student recruitment happenings will take place to better inform those interested. Potential students are required to complete the application packet. If chosen, students will participate in interviews with the AVID Site Team. Acceptance letters will be sent late in March. Students who qualify must meet one or more of the following criteria:

William Ramsay Elementary School Winter Concert

From Alexandria City Public Schools:

Parents and community members are invited to attend the William Ramsay Winter Concert on Thursday, Jan. 12. Three performances will take place at 9 a.m., 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the school auditorium. Parking for the day session is limited. The school is located at 5700 Sanger Avenue, Alexandria.

T.C. Williams Principal's Chat Postponed

Due to the principal's medical issues, the T.C. Principal's Chat, scheduled for tomorrow, Jan. 10, at 8 a.m., has been postponed until Tuesday, Jan. 17, at the same time.

Congratulations to PTA Reflections City-Level Winners

The following Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) students placed first in the city level of the PTA Reflections Program and will move on to compete at the Northern Virginia District level. The district competition includes schools from ACPS, Fairfax and Arlington counties and the City of Falls Church. The Reflections program provides opportunities for students to receive recognition for their artistic efforts and expressions based on an annual theme. The 2011-12 theme is "Diversity means ..." The T.C. Williams High School Marching Titans are sponsoring the Jan. 17 performance of The Little Theatre of Alexandria’s “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.” Each $30 general admission ticket includes admission to the 8 p.m. show and to the 7 p.m. wine and cheese reception. Jefferson-Houston School Project Community Meeting

A community meeting about the Jefferson-Houston School Project will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 10, in the multipurpose room at the school, 1501 Cameron Street, Alexandria.
