Schools

From Alexandria City Public Schools:

Because Oct. 4 marks the 54th anniversary of the "space race" with the launching of Sputnik, this month's Planetarium show will document "space race" highlights. As usual, the main program will be followed with a walk across the late October sky. Registration opens at noon on Monday, Oct. 3. The show starts at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 25, at the Planetarium at T.C. Williams High School.

Each month, Bob Nicholson leads an exciting and educational presentation for the community. Upcoming dates and topics, subject to change, are as follows:

  • Nov. 29 - To be announced
  • Dec. 20 - "The Reason for the Seasons"
  • Jan. 31 - "Disasters in Manned Space Exploration"
  • Feb. 28 - "Why Is This Year a Leap Year?"
  • March 27 - "The Reason for the Seasons"
  • April 24 - "Is There Anyone Else Out There?"
  • May 29 - "Cataclysmic Astronomy"
  • June 19 - "The Reason for the Seasons"
