Arts Safari 2010

Torpedo Factory Art Center will host the 15th annual Alexandria Arts Safari on October 9. Admission is free and the event will run from 12:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Torrpedo Factory Art Center at 105 North Union Street in Alexandria, VA.

It will be a day filled with hands-on craft activities for kids and their families. Children will enjoy the Clay Experience, Arts Safari Painting, Fabric Collage, Treasure Box Making, Giant Papier Mache Animal, and more! Children should arrive with big imaginations and wearing clothing that can get a little messy. Most activities are appropriate for children kindergarten age and above with parent supervision.

Teen Wellness Center Grand Opening Celebration

T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria, Virginia is excited to host the grand opening celebration of the new Teen Wellness Center, the very first of its kind in Northern Virginia. What does this wellness center have to offer? The Alexandria Health Department has brought its Adolescent Health Center inside the high school campus to offer better and confidential access to physical and mental health services for teens. 

The new Teen Wellness Center was formerly known as the Adolescent Health Center now calls T.C. Williams High School, located at 3330 King St., Alexandria, home. The entire community of Alexandria is invited out to participate in the grand opening celebration tomorrow, September 16, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.

9/11 Remembrance Ceremony

A special remembrance ceremony will take place this Saturday, September 11 at 12:00 p.m. at the George Washington Masonic Temple at 101 Callahan Drive in Alexandria, VA. Alexandria Mayor William D. Euille, Police Chief Earl Cook, Fire Chief Adam Thiel, and Sheriff Dana Lawhorne, along with the City of Alexandria’s public safety departments will co-host the memorial service to honor our nation’s first responders in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks. There will be free parking on the grounds of the Temple and it will remain open to visitors during the service.

Congressman Jim Moran to Hold BRAC Mark Center Town Hall

One year before the Mark Center is scheduled to be occupied, stakeholders to discuss progress, problems


Washington, D.C.— On Thursday, September 16th, Congressman Jim Moran (D-VA) will host a special community town hall to discuss the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) 133 situation at the Mark Center site in Alexandria. The event comes one year out from the military’s stated date of implementing the major BRAC relocation.

Six thousand four hundred people are scheduled to start work in the new Mark Center facility on September 15, 2011. Congressman Moran has raised major concerns regarding the traffic problems that will be caused by this relocation.

Come Have a Taste of Del Ray

Tonight from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. come on out to the Del Ray Farmers Market lot in Alexandria, VA for the Taste of Del Ray! This event includes samplings from 15 different restaurants, and all of the proceeds will benefit Community Partners for Children.

The Del Ray Farmers Market lot is located at 2400 Mount Vernon Avenue in Alexandria, VA. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children.
