Washington Humane Society Announces 2011 DC Walk for the Animals Oct. 15

This story comes to us from Scott Giacoppo:

The Washington Humane Society (WHS) will host its annual DC Walk for the Animals on Saturday, October 15, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Marie Reed Learning Center in Adams Morgan. Event registration is now open.

WHS is taking part in a national ASPCA Adoption Challenge to find homes for more animals than ever before during the months of August, September and October, and is encouraging the public to demonstrate the organization’s mantra—DC loves DC animals—by participating in this Walk to end pet homelessness in DC. Walkers are asked to raise funds in support of their efforts to benefit WHS; each participant can create a personal fundraising page on the DC Walk for the Animals website, www.dcanimalwalk.org.

The event will also feature a variety of family-friendly activities, including games, contests for people and their pets, WHS information and activity booths, a Dog Water Tent sponsored by Unleashed by Petco and more. WHS will bring adoptable dogs, and offer vaccination and microchipping services for those attending with their own canine companions. In addition, WHS has partnered with Adams Morgan Mainstreet Group to sponsor the BowWow PowWow, an annual community festival, held at the site of the Walk.

The fee to register is $20 for adults (13 years of age and older); $15 for children (4 to 12 years of age); and free for children ages 3 and under. Interested participants unable to walk October 1 can participate by becoming a “virtual walker” and helping to raise funds for the cause, at www.dcanimalwalk.org. Every dollar raised from the Walk supports the programs and services of the Washington Humane Society. For more information, visit www.dcanimalwalk.org
