84-year-old man stabbed during burglary in Alexandria

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA 9) -- Alexandria Police have arrested Horace White, 52, of D.C. Tuesday in connection with the stabbing of an 84-year-old Alexandria man that occurred on Jan 9th.

White is charged with two counts of abduction, two counts of robbery, burglary, malicious wounding and carjacking, Alexandria Police said.

At approximately 4 p.m.on Jan. 9th, police responded to the 400 block of Jackson Place for a report on a stabbing. Police say an elderly couple interrupted a burglary at their home. The 84-year-old victim was stabbed, police said.

The victim was transported to the hospital and is in serious condition, according to the police.

Alexandria water main break repaired, service restored

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA9) -- Park Central Drive will reopen Friday evening after a 12-inch water main break in the morning.

Repairs on the break were completed around 3 p.m., Virginia American Water officials, and service has been restored to 15 commercial customers.

Earlier Friday, Alexandria police tweeted out a photo of the water main break in the middle of King Street early this morning with the a warning: "The road will not be open anytime soon, please be patient."

Eastbound King Street at Park Center Drive was closed and the ramp from northbound I-395 was affected as well. At approximately 8:40 a.m., police announced that King Street was opened.

Mother, child struck by car in Alexandria

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA9) -- A mother and child were not seriously injured after being struck by a slow-moving vehicle Friday morning in Alexandria.

It happened around 7:22 a.m. at the intersection of King Street at Callahan Street, where police said the mom and child dashed across the crosswalk and were hit.

The two victims were transported to INOVA Fairfax Hospital with minor injuries, according to a police spokesperson. The driver of the vehicle was taken to INOVA Alexandria Hospital with minor injuries as well.

Metro tragedy victim was federal contractor

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA 9) -- Carol Glover, the woman who died after smoke filled the L'Enfant Plaza station on Monday, lived in Alexandria, Va., was a federal contractor, mother of two sons and a grandmother.

"She loved them and was a dedicated mom and just a really good person," said neighbor Deanna Rodriguez. "I'm just horrified that this happened to her. She was so young and vibrant."

Rodriguez lived across the street from Glover for nearly two decades. They were raising their sons together.

Rodriguez cannot grasp how Glover died Monday on a smoke filled Metro car stuck near L'Enfant Plaza.

"I don't understand that someone her age and her great health. How could that actually happen," Rodriguez asked.

Alexandria police canvass neighborhood where man was stabbed

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA9) -- Alexandria police are asking for neighbors to help find the suspect who attacked an elderly man at his own home.

The incident happened in the 400 block of Jackson Place on Jan. 9.

It was around 4 p.m. Friday when Alexandria Police responded to a report of an 84-year-old man stabbed at his Jackson Place home.

Neighbors tell WUSA9 the man and his wife had just returned home, and according to police, they interrupted a burglary. The suspect stabbed the man before fleeing, police said.

Ringing in 2015 at First Night Alexandria

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA 9) -- A new year, a fresh start.

Against the historic well-lit backdrop of Old Town Alexandria Wednesday night, there were plenty of new beginnings.

One of those new beginnings? A new marriage! Matt and Erin Smyre chose New Year's Eve as their wedding date.

When asked why they chose to get married on December 31st Smyre replied: "we like to party."

For Brittany Fallon, the new year is a new party.

"It's great. It's a party every year," Fallon said.

Fallon's birthday falls on New Year's Eve and this year happens to be her 21st.

"We're having a great time, loving it," Fallon said.

First Night Alexandria had many entertainment options for all ages.

With more than 100 live bands, people danced, cut loose and rung in the new year.

It seems 2015 will be a Happy New Year indeed.

Man shot at Alexandria apartment complex

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA9) -- A man was taken to the hospital after he was shot at an apartment complex in Alexandria, Va. Friday night, Fairfax County Police said.

Officers responded to the Pembrook Village Apartments located in the area of Pembrook Village Drive and Buckman Road around 6:51 p.m.

Police found a man with a gunshot wound to his torso, authorities said. The victim was taken to a hospital in the area with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

The victim and suspect know each other, authorities said. The suspect is still being sought by police.

The motive is not clear at this time, police said.
