The McLaughlin Group and Reuters News Correspondents’ Brunch Completes a Weekend of Celebration

The tradition goes on for The McLaughlin Group Correspondents’ Brunch the morning after the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. On Sunday, May 1, John McLaughlin, creator, executive producer and host of The McLaughlin Group, along with Stephen Adler, editor in chief of Reuters News, hosted the brunch that for McLaughlin has been a ritual for 20-plus years.

Typically held at the Hay Adams Rooftop, with a recent exception in 2009, the event was again at the famed hotel, but in newly renovated rooftop spaces. Once tented and open to the elements, the L-shaped reception hall is now lavishly adorned with classic finishes and glass doors at every turn opening to the balcony offering bird’s-eye views of the White House and Washington Monument. Sources say the first event in the newly renovated spaces was in January of this year.

McGinty's Mailbag: Safer After Bin Laden's Death?

In the Mailbag, we discuss Osama Bin Laden. Are we safer now than we were when the terrorist leader was still alive?

Brad says, well, I'm really glad he's dead. "I may not feel safer because of the death of Bin Laden because I am sure there are some radicals out there that will try to defend him, But I sure feel better knowing this country finally stood up and got it done to show the world we are still strong."

But Michael from Alexandria has questions about that Muslim burial at sea for Bin Laden.

"Can you please tell me why Osama Bin Laden was given a traditional Muslim funeral? Not only did this monster murder Americans, he also murdered Muslims. I think he should have suffered the same fate as Saddam Hussein, and the whole world should have been able to watch him hang."

Hayfield Claims School's 400th Victory, Crushes Mt. Vernon 12-1

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA) -- The National district has been a good fit for first-season member, Hayfield Secondary.  The Hawks have jumped right into the fray, joining historic players Washington-Lee and Yorktown, to make it a three-team district.  Hayfield is also poised to take its first district title in over 40 years.

Last Friday, the Hawks matched up with head coach Jimmy Linza's previous squad in Mount Vernon.  Linza claimed three district crowns in his tenure with the Majors.  Now, Linza looks ready to grab another district title with Hayfield.

The Hawks pulverized the Majors 12-1, forcing the mercy rule to go into effect and ending the game after five innings.  After Friday's game Hayfield moved up to 14-2.

Truck Driver Charged After Beltway Accident

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA) -- A truck driver has been charged with reckless driving after an accident on I-495.

Virginia State Police say they were called at 10:46 a.m. Monday to an overturned tanker truck in the eastbound lanes of I-495 east of Exit 174 for Eisenhower Avenue.

According to police, the tanker truck was heading eastbound on I-495 when traffic suddenly braked in front of it. As the truck tried to avoid striking another vehicle, it swerved and overturned onto its side.

The crash caused the tank to leak some used cooking oil. The tank had to be completely drained before crews could set the truck upright and remove it.  Police say the leaking oil also had to be cleaned up.

The eastbound lanes were re-opened by 2:26 p.m.

Police say the truck's driver, 39-year-old Ronald J. Sample, of Baltimore, was taken to a hospital to treat his injuries, which were non-life threatening.
