Man wanted in Va. Sweet Frog frozen yogurt shop robbery


ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA9) -- A man is being sought in connection with the robbery of a Sweet Frog frozen yogurt shop in Alexandria, police said.

The robbery happened at the frozen yogurt shop located in the 500 block of S. Van Dorn Street on July 28, around 4:20 p.m. The man went into the store, sat at a table and waited for the customers to leave. The suspect then went up to the cashier and pulled out a knife. He took cash from the register and fled. Nobody was hurt in the robbery.

Police say the suspect is described as a white man in his mid to late 20's. He is about average height, has brown hair, a mustache with a goatee, and has a slim build. He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt with a graphic on the back, dark shorts, flip flops, a baseball cap and glasses.

FOUND: 23-year-old Alexandria woman


ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA9) -- Alexandria police have found a 23-year-old woman. 

According to police, Reyam Abed was last seen Monday in the 5300 block of Essex Court in Alexandria at around 3:00 p.m.

Man found dead at Alexandria park identified


ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA9) -- The man found dead Huntington Park on Wednesday has been identified as 42-year-old Khalid Aboumalk of Fairfax County. Fairfax County police say an autopsy is underway but they continue to investigate his death as a homicide.

Two people walking in the park found Abournalk's body at 7:12 a.m. Wednesday. He was lying face down just a few yards from the baseball field. Police say there were wounds and trauma to his body. He had been dead less than 24 hours. 

"It's scary. You have to be careful because you never know what can happen," said one resident.

Residents in this close-knit Alexandria community awoke to sirens this morning. 

Power restored to most in Alexandria


ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA9) -- Only a handful of people were without power in Alexandria by 12:40 p.m. Wednesday after several power outages in Old Town. 

More than 2,000 Dominion Virginia Power customers were without power due to power outages in Old Town earlier Wednesday, according to the company

Alexandria police directed traffic at major intersections, mostly along Route 1.

Man found dead in Alexandria park


ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA9) -- A man was found dead at a park in Alexandria on Wednesday morning

A passerby discovered his body in Huntington Park near Liberty Drive and Arlington Terrace in the Fairfax County portion of Alexandria. Police tell us the man was middle aged man.

Investigators believe he has been dead less than 24 hours. Police remain at the scene.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) - A Frederick, Md. man is facing federal charges in connection with a 2012 firebombing of the Loudoun County Community Corrections Center.

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Virginia announced charges Monday against 25-year-old Jonathan Ernesto Godoy.

Prosecutors say Godoy and an associate lobbed Molotov cocktails at the center because of problems Godoy was having with his probation officer.

The fire in November 2012 caused more than $300,000 in damage. It went unsolved until 2014, when police received a tip from somebody who overheard a conversation about the incident at a party.

31-year-old man shot in Alexandria


ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA9) -- A man suffered non-life threatening injuries after being shot Saturday in Alexandria, according to police.

At approximately 10:14 p.m., police say officers responded to the 1000 block of First Street for the report of a shooting.

Police say a 31-year-old male suffered injuries to his lower body. He was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said.
