Man arrested for sexual assault on Va. bus

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA9) -- A man has been arrested after he allegedly sexually assaulted a woman on a commuter bus in Virginia.

According to Alexandria police, Tracy Lewis of Alexandria was arrested Wednesday and charged with abduction and sexual battery in connection to the incident.

An investigation found that on August 29, Lewis sat down next to an 18-year-old on a commuter bus at Lee Highway near Annadale Road. While the two were talking, Lewis allegedly inappropriately touched the woman and prevented her from leaving her seat.

Police say Lewis exited the bus near Lee Highway and Carlin Springs Road. The victim got off at the next stop and called police. She did not require any medical attention.

2 displaced in accidental Alexandria house fire

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA9) -- An unattended burner on a gas stovetop inside of an Alexandria home caused a fire over the weekend, Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department said.

The fire happened at the home located at 8077 Buckman Court around 12:30 a.m., according to officials. The house suffered major damage and left two people displaced. A neighbor reported the fire when they saw smoke coming from their kitchen sink.

Nobody was inside of the home when the fire started, according to officials. There were no injuries. The house was a complete lose, officials added.

FOUND: 64-year-old Alexandria man

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA9) -- Police have found a missing 64-year-old man from Alexandria, Va. He was found unharmed, police said. 


Police need your help locating a missing 64-year-old Alexandria man.

Santos Aguilar was last seen in the 5900 block of Stevenson Ave around 3 p.m. Monday.

He is described by police as a white male, 5'6" with a thin build. Aguilar was last seen wearing a red plaid shirt, green pajama pants and brown work boots. Police say he has ongoing medical issues which require treatment on a regular basis.

Man arrested for body found in Huntington Park

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA9) -- A 19-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murder in connection to the death of a man whose body was found in Huntington Park.

Michael Powell of Alexandria has been charged with second-degree murder after Fairfax County police say he killed Khalid Aboumalik, 42. Powell is being held without bond at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

Aboumalik's body was found in Huntington Park on August 5. Police say residents spotted his body lying not far from a baseball field while walking through the area.

According to police, Aboumalik suffered apparent wounds and significant trauma to his upper body.

Alexandria weekend shooting under investigation

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA9) -- A shooting that happened on Ellsworth Street in Alexandria on Saturday is under investigation, Alexandria police said.

The shooting happened in the 100 block of Ellsworth Street around 11:52 p.m. Police responded to the report of an injured person on the 3100 block of Duke Street. A 34-year-old man from Alexandria was found suffering from an injury to his stomach. He was taken to the hospital, police said.

His injury was then determined to be a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. It was determined that the shooting happened in the 100 block of Ellsworth Street. The investigation is ongoing.

Unattended oil on stove sparks Alexandria house fire

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA9) -- Unattended cooking oil on the stove caused an Alexandria house fire Friday, Fairfax County Fire and Rescue said.

The house fire happened around 12:20 p.m. at 7637 Kingsbury Road, according to officials.

When crews got to the scene fire was coming from the ranch-style home. The fire was quickly brought under control. One person was home when the fire started and was able to get out without getting hurt, officials said. The person was not displaced.

Damages are estimated at $93,750.
