Historic blizzard won't stop Alexandria wedding

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA9) -- From the perfect venue to the perfect décor, Gretchen Powell has spent years dreaming of her big day.

"For a very long time a lot longer than I've actually been with my fiancé," Powell said.

So when Powell and her Fiance Sean Fox scheduled a January wedding, they knew snow was a possibility. Now problem Powell said, she'd love a white wedding.

"I can't say I was really expecting it to be this,” Powell said.

The historic 2016 blizzard means last minute changes. Matron of Honor and Sister of the Bride Jen Robinson says the wedding party decided to spend the night before the wedding at a nearby hotel, less than a half-mile from the George Washington Masonic Memorial Venue in Alexandria.

Before the snow, Powell and Fox were expecting 135 guests. Now? The couple thinks maybe half that number will watch them exchange vows.

But Wedding Planner Caitlin Mcintire knows the show must go on.

"If worse came to worse we're walking to the wedding and take some guests along with us in a sled so we'll make it work," Mcintire said.

And the storm that many are calling Snowzilla has not turned Powell into a bridezilla, at least not yet.

"Nothing is everything going to go exactly perfectly planned. I know that and at least this means I'll have a really awesome story to tell and it will be memorable for the people who were able to make it," Powell said.

Powell and Fox will honeymoon for a few days in the Florida Keys and then cruise to the Caribbean.

UPDATE: Powell and Fox sent us this photo of their wedding:
