Two men dead after car crashes into house in Alexandria


ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA9) -- Two young men died after a car crashed into a house Tuesday night in Alexandria, Fairfax County police said. 

Around 8 p.m. Tuesday, police said a 28-year-old man was driving eastbound in the westbound lane of Beacon Hill Road at a high rate of speed. The driver veered away from oncoming traffic, lost control and struck a curb, police said. 

According to police, the car then went into a house in the 6800 block of Smithway. 

The driver of the car was transferred to Inova Mount Vernon Hospital where he later died. His 27-year-old passenger died at the scene of the accident.  

According to police, the two were driving a in car that was reported stolen from Falls Church.

Detectives believe that speed may be a factor in the crash and are investigating whether or not drugs or alcohol were also factors.
