ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA9) -- The man found dead Huntington Park on Wednesday has been identified as 42-year-old Khalid Aboumalk of Fairfax County. Fairfax County police say an autopsy is underway but they continue to investigate his death as a homicide.

Two people walking in the park found Abournalk's body at 7:12 a.m. Wednesday. He was lying face down just a few yards from the baseball field. Police say there were wounds and trauma to his body. He had been dead less than 24 hours.

"It's scary. You have to be careful because you never know what can happen," said one resident.

Residents in this close-knit Alexandria community awoke to sirens this morning.

Neighbors said the park is a trouble spot. "In the past there has been a lot of prostitution, drugs, and some homeless people," said another resident.

"We will work with the officers who patrol this area," responded Lucy Caldwell the public information officer for Fairfax County Police, "they have mentioned there has been issues at this park but nothing that is out of the ordinary and would make it a threat to anyone in the community."

Police are asking anyone who was in Huntington Park Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning to give them a call at 703-691-8888 or 1-866-411-TIPS.
