Lightning strike hits roof causes Alexandria house fire

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA9) -- An Alexandria house caught on fire after it was struck by lighting Tuesday evening, Fairfax County Fire and Rescue said.

The fire started around 6:25 p.m. at the house located at 4300 Upland Drive, according to officials.

When crews got to the scene fire was coming from the roof of the two-story home, officials said. Firefighters were able to quickly put out the fire.

Residents were at home when the fire started, but were able to get out unharmed. One of the residents reported the fire before the alarms went off.

Three people have been displaced and declined help from Red Cross.

Damages are estimated at $70,000.
