Man killed in Arlington police-involved shooting ID'd

ARLINGTON, Va. (WUSA9) -- A man was shot and killed during a police-involved shooting in Arlington on Tuesday, according to Arlington County police.

The man has been identified as 54-year-old Alfredo Rials-Torres of Arlington.

Rials-Torres died at the hospital after police shot him in the chest. A woman and two officers were also injured in the incident.

Police said that screaming could be heard on an anonymous 911 call. After the two officers arrived, a neighbor said the altercation sounded like Rials-Torres was attacking the officers when they tried to help his elderly mother.


The shooting happened in the 4200 block of 2nd Street N. on Tuesday morning. Deputy Chief Daniel Murray told WUSA9 that police responded to a domestic call at the Gates of Ballston apartment complex at approximately 11 a.m. and there was an altercation.

Several neighbors told WUSA9 Rials-Torres was on medication for schizophrenia and depression. They said he took care of is 89-year-old mother who they say has Alzheimer's.

The woman suffered serious injuries, according to Arlington County Fire officials.


One officer was tased and another officer suffered a deep cut to the face, according to police and fire officials.
