Extreme Makeover: Home Edition Host Returns to DC

Washington, DC (December 1, 2011)—The all new Washington Home & Garden Show is extremely pleased to announce that Ty Pennington, the iconic host of ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition will headline the March 9-11 Show at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in downtown DC.

“We are incredibly excited to have one of the most recognized personalities in home improvement join us for our new and improved Washington Home & Garden Show,” said Alyson Caplan, Show Manager.  “Ty has supported Marketplace Events for four years and he is finally able to come to DC to offer his home design expertise to residents in the nation’s capital.”

One of the most widely recognized and respected figures in the industry, Ty Pennington began his American television career as a carpenter and designer on TLC’s Trading Spaces.  From there, he went on to star as host of ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, which has consistently been rated in the top 20 television shows in the nation.  With Ty at the helm, the home makeover show has won among other awards, two Emmys and two People’s Choice Awards.

In the New Year, Ty will continue to share his home improvement skills with the launch of his new show, ABC’s The Revolution.  Set to air January 16, 2012 at 2:00 p.m., the day-time talk show will focus on providing viewers with all of the necessary tools to make a complete lifestyle change.  As a person’s environment can affect their personal and social lives, Ty will use his talents to help show participants how to create the most positive home environment possible.

Ty is also widely recognized as a master of home design overseas.  In Great Britain he hosted UKTV Home’s community improvement program Ty’s Great British Adventure, for which he was also executive producer.  In addition, he now stars in UKTV Home’s Homes for the Brave, which works to improve the homes and lives of soldiers of the British Army who served in Afghanistan.  Slightly closer to home, on Canada’s W Network, Ty is featured on Inside the Box with Ty Pennington, where amateur interior designers are pitted against each other, asked to decorate a room using only materials assembled by Ty, unknown to them until design time.

Besides designing homes on television, Ty is also an active designer off-screen.  He recently launched a fabric line called Ty Pennington Impressions with Westminster Fabrics, continues to design furniture for Signature Home Furnishings by Ty Pennington with Howard Miller and designs for Sears’ seasonal home décor line Ty Pennington Style.

The author of two books – How Good Design Can Change Your Life (Simon & Schuster) and New York Times best seller Ty’s Tricks (Hyperion) – Ty is eager to share his tips, tricks and insights into home design with anyone looking to improve their homes.

Visitors to the March Show can expect a very special stage presentation by Ty, along with a lively question and answer session.  The Washington Home & Garden Show will announce opportunities to meet Ty in person in early 2012.

The all new Washington Home & Garden Show opens Friday, March 9 and continues through Sunday, March 11, 2012.  Admission is $9 (online) or $12 (at the door) for adults, $3 for children ages 6 to 12 and free for children 5 and younger.
