Giving the Gift of Craft During these Tough Economic Times… | Health
Tis’ the season to be giving, right? But what if you cannot afford to give monetarily, like a group of nursing students from Global Health College that are struggling to afford an education? Spreading the gift of health during this holiday season is what this group of nursing students decided to do.
On December 15th, the students from Global Health College (GHC) demonstrated some of their basic clinical skills, distributed canned goods and coats to a local homeless shelter in Alexandria that they were busy collecting in between their studies and clinics for months prior.
This inaugural event, successfully orchestrated by the Director of GHC, Mariatu Kargbo, and her students, was well received by the shelter and attracted the attention of some of Congressman Jim Moran’s staff. “Giving is the secret of a healthy life. Not necessarily money…” repeated Ms. Kargbo with the words of John Rockefeller Jr, “it is my passion to inculcate the values of community health to our students.”
So the next time someone begs you for a donation during this holiday season, preying on your guilt, think of a craft you can donate…it may be worth more to you and that person than a few extra jingles in that person’s pocket!
