Giant Food Brings Food and Funds to USO of Metropolitan Washington

Giant Food Brings Food and Funds to USO of Metropolitan Washington

This year Giant Food is celebrating their 75th anniversary and USO of Metropolitan Washington is celebrating their 70th anniversary. These two organizations partnered up for a giving campaign during the month of March to support local military families.

From March 4 until March 25, Giant Food customers had the opportunity to donate $1, $3, or $5 at the register, as well as bring non-perishable food items to stock the USO Food Pantry.

Today at the USO Warehouse at Fort Belvoir, Jamie Miller, the Pubic and Community Relations Manager of Giant Food presented USO a large check as well as a truckload of food that held over 9,000 pounds of non-perishables. In addition, Giant delivered hundreds of handmade cards for the troops to include in the care packages made by Giant customers and local elementary students.

The community response was overwhelming. “This far exceeded out expectations,” said Miller.

Living With George

Living With George

We often like to stay in contact with the families that have adopted animals from us. We like to think that adopting from us includes building a relationship that will continue long after you and your family leaves our shelter. That way, if there were ever any problems, adopters can feel comfortable with talking to us before it spirals to a point where it jeopardizes the bond you share with your pet. We would then of course do what we could to help fix the problem.

What’s best about this relationship is that more often than not we find that there are no problems at all and in fact that the adoption has changed the human's life and much as it has the animal’s.

Tips for Eating Healthfully From a Vending Machine

Tips for Eating Healthfully From a Vending Machine

We live in a fast-paced world and, at one time or another, we have all found ourselves face to face with a vending machine, looking for a snack or beverage. The problem, up until now, has been that vending machine food was always synonymous with junk food or unhealthy options. But a new company has set out to change the way people see vending machines, and the nutrition that they get from them.

“Maybe it wasn’t easy to find healthy, tasty food from vending machines before, but we have made it our mission to change that,” explains Jolly Backer, the chief executive officer of Fresh Healthy Vending (www.freshvending.com). “Now, people can get a nutritious snack or beverage, whether they are playing, working, or at school. We are on the move and hopefully coming to an area near you soon.”

Gift Ideas For Mother's Day

Gift Ideas For Mother's Day

Just as the temperature begins to show signs of heating up, and my flower beds begin to show signs of life beyond winter, I found the most gorgeous collection of silk photo albums that are simply too elegant to forget. And in fact, I was invited to a fabulous black tie event last weekend at my friend, Lynda's home (yes, her home!) and I so wish that I had come across these works of art before I settled on something lovely as a hostess gift-- but not nearly as special.
