Pearl & Shell Show at Mystique Jewelers

Come on out to Mystique Jewelers this weekend to check out pearls and shells galore! This small boutique jewelry store overlooking the Potomac River in Old Town Alexandria is hosting this event on Saturday, August 21 from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Come check out luxurious pearls, delicately designed jewelry, and multi-colored shells from around the globe that are set in mirrors, statues and various furniture. These beautiful pieces can transform your home, and you don’t have to live in a beach house to enjoy them!

Get Registered for the Northern Virginia Senior Olympics

The 2010 Northern Virginia Senior Olympics is being held September 18 through September 29. The deadline to register is Wednesday, September 1! To be eligible you must be 50 years old by December 31, 2010 and live in a sponsoring jurisdiction, which include the counties of Arlington, Fairfax, Fauquier, Loudoun and Prince William, and the cities of Alexandria, Fairfax and Falls Church. $10 includes one event and the following events are open:

Track & field, team line dance, racquetball, ten pin bowling, eight ball pool, Wii bowling, bocce, tennis, table tennis, fencing, golf, shuffleboard, chess, miniature golf, bunco, horseshoes, softball hit & throw, backgammon, scrabble, cribbage, yo-yo tricks, duplicate bridge, swimming, diving, pickleball, men’s basketball,  men’s and women’s free throw basketball

Alexandria Gears Up for Cambodian Community Day

Alexandria is getting ready for The 2010 Cambodian Community Day. This festival is dedicated to integrating Cambodian culture into American society. It is also about bringing Cambodian and American families together to have fun, share Cambodian heritages, and learn about Cambodian culture. The planning committee hopes to bring about a recognition of Khmer achievements and build the Khmer voice.

One special feature of the event is a handmade, stone replica of Angkor Wat. The festival will be held on Sunday, August 22 at Ben Brenman Park at 4800 Park Drive in Alexandria, VA from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Admission is free and the event is open to everyone! Operation H.O.P.E Presents One Love Festival

Operation H.O.P.E, Inc. is a non-profit social service organization dedicated entirely to providing the underserved citizens of Alexandria alternative public services. The organization works to give these individuals free access to mentoring, life skills classes, educational tutoring, career development and physical awareness education.

This Saturday, August 21, Operation H.O.P.E is hosting the 10th Annual “One Love Festival” and “One Love Comedy Show and Fundraiser” at George Washington Middle School in Alexandria, VA. The festival will be from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on the school field and include games, food, rides and entertainment. Then the comedy show and fundraiser will take place in the auditorium at 8:30 p.m.

DC Restaurant Week Hits VA Neighborhoods

Luckily DC Restaurant Week is not limited to the District. DC Summer Restaurant Week starts tonight and runs through Sunday, August 22. The Yard Dogs Road Show is Coming to Town

The The Yard Dogs Road Show (YDRS) is a world-traveling show that is coming to our very own Alexandria. The 13 member band that describes themselves as a “hobo cabaret” will be performing at the Birchmere at 3701 Mount Vernon Avenue in Alexandria on Wednesday, September 22 at 7:30 p.m. All ages are welcome and tickets are $25 a person.

YDRS, which began in California in 1998, travels around the world performing a spectacular blend of dance and magic, such as a blend of burlesque with sword swallowing. This show is like nothing you have seen before.
