QUANTICO, VA - On Wednesday, March 2, the students of Lynbrook Elementary School in Springfield, VA will celebrate their award-winning accomplishment as they receive the Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) Healthy School Award for the 11th consecutive year.

Lynbrook Elementary is one of five schools in Virginia to receive the award for its participation in the Healthy Kids Fun Run, organized by the MCM on October 30. Lynbrook registered 275 students, the largest total among 747 participating schools.

Upon receiving the Healthy School Award in the school gym, Lynbrook PE teachers will "raise a banner" in celebration of their students' accomplishments. The award will be presented during a school assembly beginning at 1:30 p.m., in the school gym located at 5801 Backlick Road.

As part of the Healthy School Award, MCM sponsor Sodexo will present a check for $1,000 to the school and provide healthy snacks for all of the students, while the National Children's Museum, also a MCM sponsor, will conduct its "Museum Without Walls" traveling program. U.S. Marines from Marine Corps Base Quantico and Miles the Bulldog will engage the students in PT exercises during the assembly.

The final of five Healthy School Awards will be presented to George Mason Elementary School in Alexandria, VA on March 10.
