Gardening Lecture Series at Green Spring Gardens

From Fairfax County Park Authority:

You may not be actively working in your garden during the cold months, but winter is a great time to explore new garden techniques and learn about your garden plants. The Harry Allen Winter Lecture Series brings that opportunity to you at Green Spring Gardens.

The lectures take place on Sunday afternoons in January, February and March. They provide opportunities to meet authors, garden designers, scientists and garden enthusiasts on the cutting edge of horticulture. Refreshments and time to meet the speakers are provided after the lectures.

Lecture topics in this year’s series include Hellebores, the secrets of trees, native plants for diverse landscapes, George Washington’s garden, native wild plants, landscape design, designing with conifers, no-mow lawns and growing tomatoes. Speakers include Richard Tyler and Judith Knott Tyler of Pine Knot Farms, authors Nancy Hugo, Dr. Richard Bitner and Evelyn Hadden, Mt. Cuba Director, Richard Lewandowski, Mt. Vernon Estate Director of Horticulture Dean Norton, Earth Sangha co-founders Chris and Lisa Bright, WTOP Radio Garden Editor Mike McGrath and Steve Robinson of Axios Architecture in Atlanta.

The program begins January 15, 2012.  Each event runs from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. The cost for each lecture is $10, and with limited seating it is best to register in advance through Parktakes Online on the Fairfax County Park Authority website at www.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/parktakes/.
