There’s a new tiger in town! Meet Kavi, an 11-year-old male, from Zoo Atlanta on July 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo on Global Tiger Day.
Kavi is the newest edition to the tiger family, joining females Damai and Soyono
The Prowl around the Great Cats exhibit will over special demonstrations at 11 a.m., 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. Keepers will also talk about the daily care of the Zoo’s Sumatran tigers and how the tigers contribute to conservation efforts.
But that’s not all!
Face painting will be available for those who want to take on the tiger persona. There will also be tiger-themed arts and crafts.
Experts from the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute’s Tiger Conservation Partnership will display tools they use in the field to study tigers and other species in Asia, including radio collars and camera traps, for visitors to see and touch.
Other organizations including U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the International Fund for Animal Welfare, Wildlife Conservation Society and the Global Tiger Initiative will join Tiger Conservation Partnership experts in talking about the threats facing tigers in the wild and what is being done to save them.
