Acclaimed writer Joyce Carol Oates will discuss her new book Mudwoman, an exploration of success and self-identity.

On Wednesday, May 23, 2012, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.The Hay-Adams Author Series will welcome award-winning author Joyce Carol Oates, one of the most acclaimed writers in the world today, to discuss her latest novel, Mudwoman, while dining with guests at the Top of the Hay, the Hotel’s elegant rooftop spaces overlooking the White House.

Looking to make a difference in these trying times, the Washington, DC CROP Hunger Walk has set a goal of 180 Walkers and a $20,000 target in order to help stop hunger and poverty in our community and around the world through self-help initiatives.  A portion of the funds raised here from the Washington, DC CROP Hunger Walk will go to help Martha’s Table and DC Hunger Solution.

The even will take place on Saturday, May 5 at the Christ United Methodist Church at 4th and I Street SW.  Registration starts at 9:45 a.m..

This is the Eighth of an Eight-Part Feature on the designers’ vision and progress at the DC Design House, which is now open through May 13th. The DC Design House benefits Children's National Medical Center.

Victoria Sanchez of Victoria Sanchez Interiors in Alexandria, VA, www.victoriasanchezinteriors.com, was inspired by her own children for the design of Space 21, the Teenager’s Getaway. “I looked to their likes and dislikes, and their wants and desires as I created this design,” says Sanchez, who is excited to part of the Design House but also knows the amount of work that had to be completed in a short period of time.

This is the Seventh of an Eight-Part Feature on the designers’ vision and progress at the DC Design House, which is now open through May 13th.

For the second year in a row, Nadia Subaran of Aidan Design in Bethesda, MD, www.aidandesign.com, is part of the DC Design House. “It’s truly an honor,” Subaran says. “I feel very grateful to be in the company of so many fine designers.” Last year, Subaran designed the Pool Kitchen and this year took on the much larger main Kitchen in this Spring Valley home.
