Alexandria Food Carts are Open on Market Square!

Alexandria Food Carts are Open on Market Square!

The bright yellow umbrellas and food carts are out on Market Square in Old Town Alexandria. These food carts are the City of Alexandria's pilot program that is limited to existing restaurants in Old Town and so far, the project has been a great success.

"It brings activity to the City square in the summer," said Barbara Ross, the Deputy Director for the Department of Planning and Zoning for the City of Alexandria.

Ross explained how the city wanted to start small, but this is a first step in a much larger project.

"It's pretty, it's exciting, and it's delicious!" exclaimed Ross, who works in City Hall and got herself a crepe for lunch today. Check out the video to find out what other delicious eats you can get from the carts.

Vendor carts will be on Market Square from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on weekdays and Sundays, and from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturdays.

What would you expect a four-and-three-quarter-year-old to say at the end of a four-and-a-half-mile hike that she just finished using her own two feet? “What a wonderful day,” Sofi announced when we walked past the old Tavern (that I was wishing was still a tavern) at Great Falls National Park.

Local Starbucks Barista Gets an ‘Ambush Makeover’ in Old Town Alexandria

'Ambush Makeovers' are hitting the streets of Old Town Alexandria. Circe Salon and Spa Owners Richard and Ellen Vlasak were looking for ways to engage local merchants and sneak attack makeovers seemed like the perfect way to do this.

This morning Circe Salon and Spa surprised a local Starbucks barista with their first ever ‘ambush makeover.’ The lucky barista, Shannon Murry, was blindfolded and whisked away to Circe’s salon for an all day pampering and makeover session.

“Richard is very fond of her [Shannon] because she is so nice to him in the morning when he goes in for his coffee. We thought it would be a great idea to surprise her and get her in here for a total makeover,” said Ellen Vlasak.

Kara Allan, professional stylist of Style for Hire, and Glambassador for Glamour Magazine helped picked out shoes, jewelry, and the perfect dress for Day.
