Metro Fine Arts Center Donates $5000 To Make-A-Wish Foundation

Metropolitan Fine Arts Center (MFAC) of Alexandria, Va. raised $5000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, after pledging $1 of every ticket sold from their Nutcracker performances.

“We are honored to be able to support the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which has a personal significance to us, as we lost one of our young students a few years ago to cancer,” said Melissa Dobbs, founder and executive director of Metropolitan Fine Arts Center of Alexandria and Fairfax Station, Va. “We appreciate the support of our community in helping us give back to an organization that inspires and lifts the spirits of those struggling with illness,” said Dobbs.

Sabrina Campbell, owner of Occasionally Cake of Old Town Alexandria will be judging chocolate dishes at the annual Old Town Fairfax Chocolate Lover’s Festival, March 2 and March 3, 2013. Occasionally Cake had Best in Show and Best in Taste for the past three years at the Chocolate Lover’s Festival. “This is our fifth year to be a part of the Chocolate’s Lover’s Festival it’s one of our favorite ‘foodie’ events for sure,” said Sabrina Campbell, Occasionally Cake owner. “You can’t go wrong with chocolate it’s always fun to compete, but I particularly love to judge and sample so many of the creative creations,” said Campbell.

After searching for decorative panels and accents and finding the available designs were just more of the same, Tabitha Mahaffey and Patricia Ulliman decided to combine their expertise and form Swank Designs, offering custom lines of pillows, panels and children's bedding. Together, they share a passion for using and incorporating fabrics in unexpected ways.

Occasionally Cake Hosts Valentine Cookie Workshop In Anticipation Of Valentine's Day

On Sat., Feb. 9, Occasionally Cake of Old Town Alexandria is featuring a hands-on Valentine Day Cookie Decorating workshop for all ages at 207 King Street in Old Town Alexandria offered at three sessions, 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.  Participants will receive four cookies at the one-hour workshop, a decorating demonstration and a take-home heart cookie box for the decorated cookies. “Dance Your Heart Out” Campaign Raises Money For American Heart Association

In honor of National Heart Month, Metropolitan Fine Arts Center (MFAC) of Alexandria and Fairfax Station, Va. is featuring their “Dance Your Heart Out” campaign, offering unlimited adult dance and mind/body classes throughout February for a special price of $110. And MFAC will donate 10 percent of all “Dance Your Heart Out class fees to the American Heart Association. Schedules can be viewed at www.metrofinearts.com. Classes are available at Alexandria and Fairfax Station, Va. locations.

MFAC’s “Dance Your Heart Out” campaign includes all adult dance, yoga and MetroBarre classes. A regular adult class fee is 10 classes for $130. The February “Dance Your Heart Out” program provides unlimited adult class access at a significantly discounted set fee of $110 with 10 percent donated to the American Heart Association.

Washington, D.C.- Jeannie "Kitty of the City” Jones, media personality of WPGC 95.5/Fox 5 News and Ready Set Impact, a multi-media company, hosted  “Grant My Wish” holiday event with her Grant My Wish Foundation December 21st  through the 23rd.  

This weekend long event began on Friday and featured a 24 hour drive at the 1301 Pennsylvania Avenue Starbucks  along with WPGC their radio partner. Rapper T.I. made a special appearance along with US Marines to assist with the toy collection.

In 2010, Haymarket, Va. residents, Bill and Debbie Harvey, founders of Helping Haitian Angels, began the slow process of acquiring 40 acres in Haiti with plans to build orphan homes, a church, a school and a medical clinic for Haiti’s orphans of Limonade, Haiti. After two years, Helping Haitian Angels finally realized their dream with the help of donors, friends and family who helped raise the $60,000 to acquire the land.
