On Monday, January 27, 2014The Hay-Adams Author Series will welcome Richard Moe, who has had a distinguished career in government, law and historic preservation, to discuss his recent book, Roosevelt’s Second Act: The Election of 1940 and The Politics of War, while dining with guests at The Top of the Hay, the Hotel’s elegant rooftop spaces overlooking the White House. Chef Peter Schaffrath will prepare a delicious seasonal luncheon with dessert by Pastry Chef Josh Short.

Julia Walter of Boffi and Brian Fell of Maxalto designed an Italian-themed tree that includes a Tuscany Villa getaway and gift certificates from local Italian restaurants and beauty salon.

Spectacular holiday trees and décor are now on display in the lobby of the Four Seasons Hotel in anticipation of the 8th Annual Georgetown Jingle held this Sunday, December 15th. The event benefits pediatric programs at Medstar Georgetown University Hospital’s Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center.

                                        A CAUTIONARY TALE FOR ALL SEASONS        When my ex-husband and I were first married in 1984, we had one TV - with rabbit ears-  and one VCR, in a cozy, but adequate two bedroom apartment. By the time we divorced twenty years later, we had three TVs, all hooked up to an antenna AND cable, five working VCRs, and hundreds of VHS tapes of programs that had been recorded but never watched, purportedly stockpiled for "retirement," which I sold for $150 on my way out of the three bedroom condo. The last five years also brought a computer that could access the Internet, in addition to an older one which was basically a word processor.

The Italian retailer now open in Rockville, Maryland offers Versace and Bisazza tiles, among many others

Italo Ceramica, a ceramic tile retailer with 36 stores in Europe, celebrated the opening of its first US showroom located at 725 Rockville Pike in Rockville, Maryland this month. The Italo Ceramica team welcomed more than 120 design industry professionals, media and customers for a grand opening celebration with special guests Andrea Bacchini, North America Market Director for Imola Ceramica, Italo Ceramica’s partner, and artist Alexander Stefan, who exhibited his photography. Stefan also raffled off one of his works during the evening event.

DOES HIGH QUALITY HEALTH INSURANCE = HIGH QUALITY HEALTH CARE?

        The goal of Obamacare is to make high quality health insurance available to all. It's basically a mandated means to finance that industry, government welfare, if you will, large percentage of Medicaid signups at this juncture notwithstanding. But what about the value to patients in the underlying medical treatment they are now paying to procure access to? Won't it be stretched thin with all the newly enrolled that are being dumped into the system? Does anyone care?!     Below is a rendition of encounters I had with various providers over a one year period, in the shadow of the Capitol, in the President's backyard...to be continued.
