Melissa Silva, hairstylist at Salon Daniel, was inspired to host the autism awareness event because her nephew is severely autistic, and also has attention-deficit-hyperactivity disorder and attention-deficit disorder. She takes every opportunity to educate people and donate money to autism charities. She created Melissa Lynn jewelry designs as a way to raise money for autism research. She refers to her jewelry as “autism” jewelry, which is a symbol for autism because of its mystery. All sales of the “autism” jewelry go directly toward Autism Speaks. Melissa Lynn Design jewelry is sold at Salon Daniel in McLean, Va.

We still have so much to learn about autism and Salon Daniel is asking all its clients to help raise awareness for autism in April. Wear blue and make difference for Melissa’s nephew and the many other children coping with autism.

In 2005, Autism Speaks was founded by Bob and Suzanne Wright, grandparents of a child with autism. Since then, Autism Speaks has grown into the nation's largest autism science and advocacy organization, dedicated to funding research into the causes, prevention, treatments and a cure for autism; increasing awareness of autism spectrum disorders; and advocating for the needs of individuals with autism and their families. At Autism Speaks, the goal is to change the future for all who struggle with autism spectrum disorders. They are dedicated to funding global biomedical research into the causes, prevention, treatments, and cure for autism; to raising public awareness about autism and its effects on individuals, families, and society; and to bring hope to all who deal with the hardships of this disorder. It is their firm belief that by working together, they will find the missing pieces of the puzzle. For more information, visit www.autismspeaks.org.
