Alexandria Cake Boutique Gives Back to Local Charity

Occasionally Cake of Alexandria, Va. is donated more than $450 worth of cupcakes to the DC-charity event, Zahra;s Universe Release Party, supporting Becky’s Fund. Creating more than 300 cupcakes for the event, the cakery is committed to help educate and prevent dating and domestic abuse. Occasionally Cake is noted for their flavor-of-the-day cupcakes, and unique variety. Call 703-780-CAKE or visit www.occasionallycake.com for more information.

The Alexandria cake boutique offers more than 100 cake flavors, but their signature cake flavors include: Summer Delight, a white, almond sour cream cake with pear and raspberry fillings iced in buttercream; Chocolate Madness, a chocolate truffle cake filled with chocolate ganache and iced in rich chocolate icing; Perfectly Pumpkin, moist pumpkin cake filled with eggnog filling and iced in a cream cheese icing; and Pink Champagne, a pink pomegranate cake filled and iced in a champagne butter-cream.

Some of their cupcake flavors include: Carrot Cake, Chocolate-dipped Strawberry, Cookies N’ Cream, Fuzzy Navel, Key Lime Cheesecake, Neapolitan, Red Velvet, Tiramisu; The Elvis and Yin & Yang.

Occasionally Cake is also renowned for their cake truffles. Owner, Sabrina Campbell, came up with a delicious recipe to use up extra cake. Instead of discarding it, the leftover cake became the centerpiece of their cake truffles, which are similar to the traditional chocolate truffle.   They take their cakes and icings and blend them into creamy centers, then dip the entire ball into high quality Belgian chocolate.

Occasionally Cake is open Tuesday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

QUOTE, Attributed to Sabrina Campbell, owner and baker, Occasionally Cake:
Domestic violence is something that touches so many people from all backgrounds. Education is central to help preventing it and reaching those affected by the violence, which is why we were happy to support Becky’s Fund.

Becky's Fund was established in 2009 in Washington, DC. It executes its outreach strategy through national awareness and media campaigns, using radio, print and television public service announcements.  The non-profit leverages education, Web 2.0 technology and essential resources to enable critical one-to-one connections between victims and survivors.  These crucial resources take aim at the heart of damaging social beliefs that perpetuate a cycle of struggle among so many people in our community.  Through its website and programs, Becky's Fund also connects donors with the specific needs of domestic violence victims. Currently, Ms. Lee is speaking on college campuses across the country to educate tens of thousands of students on how to recognize the warning signs of dating violence, how to get help, and how to help a friend in need.
