National Small Business Week Focus: Case Design/Remodeling Celebrates 50 Years

With entrepreneurs around the country working diligently to bring creative approaches to all types of industries and to improve the economy, it's heartening to find a company celebrating 50 years in business. This past March marked the 50-year anniversary of Case Design/Remodeling, Inc. as a DC Metro area full service residential remodeling organization with offices in Bethesda, Maryland and Falls Church, Virginia.

First known as Case Construction Company in 1961 when founded by Fred Case, the firm changed its name in the early 1980s to Case Design/Remodeling, Inc. when it brought design in-house. Bruce Case, the current president and son of Fred Case, says Case Design/Remodeling is committed to the foundation of integrity and excellence that the company was built on.

“Today and looking forward over the next 50 years, you can look forward to Case Design/Remodeling taking design to a whole new level,” Bruce Case says, by integrating visualization tools and using technology, such as iPads.

In the 1990s, Case Design/Remodeling introduced its handyman services and this year has upped that division’s focus as well as its name to fred, named after the founder of the firm. With a fresh approach to handling repairs, fred “brings a sliding scale rating structure to ensure we’re bringing value for the money you’re investing in those home repairs,” Case adds. Homeowners can schedule repair services online, such as painting, electrical, plumbing, carpentry and more, and can select the repairman who will do the work via photographs and bios of the handymen online.

“Whatever we do, whatever direction we take, I can ensure you they are designed around giving you [the homeowner] choices, where Case or fred can fit,” Case says.

With a 50-year history in the DC Metro area with more than 100 employees including 20-plus in-house designers, Case Design/Remodeling and its new handyman division, fred, speak to the entrepreneurship being honored during National Small Business Week. Case Design/Remodeling has won more than 70 awards including two 2011 Chrysalis Awards for kitchen projects and a GuildQuality 2011 Guildmaster Award for superior customer service.

Case Design/Remodeling continues to expand its support system with the recent promotion of Rick Matus to Senior Vice President. Matus has been with Case for more than 20 years, starting as an assistant project designer in 1989 and holding many positions within the company. With a BS in Architecture from the University of Maryland, Matus is a leader on Case’s team.
