On Tuesday, September 20th, ABC 7's Natasha Barrett hosted the 2nd Annual Cupcakes & Cocktails benefitting the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) held at One Lounge, 1606 20th Street, NW. Barrett was joined by fellow ABC 7 broadcasters Alison StarlingLeon Harris and Arch Campbell as well as Fox 5's Steve Chenevey, WUSA 9's Anita Brikman and NBC 4's John Schriffen to judge the cupcake competition.

The cupcake categories and winning bakeries included: Top Cupcake - Small: b+l bakehouse; Top Cupcake - Large: Chatman's D'Vine Bakery & Cafe; Prettiest Pastry: CakeLove; Fanciful Flavor: Batter Up; Tastiest Topping: Red Velvet Cupcakery; Totally on Topic: Divinely Decadent Desserts; and Give Me Seconds: Heller's Bakery. Attendees also had a hand in voting by giving b+l bakehouse the People's Choice award.

Barrett, who also hosted last year's 1st Annual Cupcakes & Cocktails event, says CCFA is an organization near and dear to her. "My Mom has been through so much living with Crohn's disease," Barrett says. "When I got my driver's license at 16, I had to go to one place everyday - the hospital. My mom was there for months recovering from several surgeries. She almost died. All I want is a cure for Crohn's disease so nobody has to go through what she has had to endure."

More than 120 supporters attended this year's event. “We were very pleased with the 2nd Annual Cupcakes & Cocktails benefitting the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation," says Marcy Fritter, Development Director at CCFA, Greater Washington, DC/Virginia Chapter. "Our judges and bakeries were all so generous with their time and welcoming to our guests. We are honored by the support we received from friends, new and old, through their attendance and excitement about the silent auction. One Lounge was a fantastic, intimate venue for the event and the staff was great to work with."

"It's an awesome feeling to see so many people coming together to help raise money for the cause that's so close to my family's heart," Barrett adds. "I can only hope next year's event is bigger and better!"

Owners of the Dupont Circle lounge, Seth McClelland and Niko Papademetriou, mingled with the guests who sipped on signature One Lounge cocktails as well as wine and beer. Besides ticket sales to the event that included a chance to win a 7-day cruise, a silent auction helped raise more than $7,000 for CCFA. Bonus: everyone went home with a Georgetown Cupcake.
