Original Arlington Cemetery Urns to Be Auctioned Off

Original Arlington Cemetery Urns to Be Auctioned Off

Two historic marble urns will be auctioned off on January 30th at The Potomack Company Auctions in Alexandria, VA. The urns, original to Arlington National Cemetery’s Memorial Amphitheater, stand at 9 feet tall and are made of white marble. The urns stood near The Tomb of the Unknowns during memorial services that were attended by every American president of the 20th and 21st centuries. Moreover, they were custom built by one of America's leading early 20th century architectural firms, Carrere
and Hastings, for Tomb of the Unknown Soldier Amphitheater.

Environmental Artist Alison Sigethy Presents "Understory" at The Art League

Environmental Artist Alison Sigethy Presents "Understory" at The Art League

Environmental artist Alison Sigethy draws inspiration from the natural world surrounding her. From collages created of natural fibers to sculptures made from recycled glass, her works have an innate organic quality. Her multimedia solo exhibit, Understory, will be featured in The Art League Gallery, January 6 – February 7, 2011.

Sigethy has created an installation that invites the viewer to explore the often unnoticed, yet essential parts of the forest. She emphasizes the “quiet beauty” of the unseen through layers of glass fungi, collages that evoke the striations of cliff sides, and delicate snowflakes.
