Learn to Dance at the New Dance Program, Watch a Chainsaw Artist and Ride Twisted Twister…

 It’s that time again for the beautiful log carvings of the popular Chainsaw Chix, more than 100 crafters and an all new interactive dance session with dance groups like the Israeli Dance Program and the Happy Feet Cloggers at the 29th Annual Manassas Fall Jubilee to be held, Sat., Oct. 1 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Old Town Manassas, Va. With FREE admission and FREE parking, the event will feature hundreds of crafters, including exhibitors with handmade jewelry and products, woodcrafts, face painting, a pumpkin patch, live entertainment and rides. New this year, the Fall Jubilee is hosting an interactive dance area with dance groups like, The Happy Feet Cloggers, The Suburban Gypsies and the Israeli Dance Program. Attendees can watch performances and learn the dance steps as well.

Alexandria’s West End is buzzing with the news that a brand new Art and Wine Festival will debut October 8 and 9, 2011 at the Cameron Station community and adjoining Ben Brenman Park.  Visitors will enjoy over 100 juried artists, representing quality artwork in a variety of media, as well as impressive hand crafters showcasing their wares. DelFosse Winery will showcase 9 wines and 2 sangrias to taste and enjoy at a special Wine Garden featuring local musicians Viki Dee, Matthew Mills Acoustic Music, and Samovar Russian Folk Music Ensemble located at the scenic gazebo

City of Alexandria Commission for the Arts Schedules Grants Program Workshops

The Alexandria Commission for the Arts will conduct four grant program workshops to provide information about the Commission’s annual grant program, which provides funding to non-profit arts organizations for various arts programs, and instructions for the on-line application process. All applicants including past grant recipients are encouraged to attend one of the grant workshops. Workshops are held at the Durant Arts Center, 1605 Cameron St., and are scheduled as follows:

Tuesday, September 13, 7 p.m.;

Thursday, September 22, 2 p.m.;

Wednesday, October 5, 7 p.m.; and

Wednesday, October 26, 2 pm

The goals of the Commission’s grant program are to encourage artistic excellence in the City; assist Alexandria-based arts organizations in improving their financial, administrative, and management capabilities; and provide individual artists with opportunities to create, perform, and present their works.

The City of Alexandria will host the “Navy Band Cruisers,” the U.S. Navy’s premiere contemporary entertainment ensemble, 6 p.m., at Market Square, 301 King Street, Alexandria.  Admission is free, and attendees are welcome to bring chairs or sit around the bench seating in front of City Hall.

The Cruisers feature eight of the Navy's most dynamic performers and takes its name from the Navy's versatile and flexible ship – the Cruiser. The band plays many genres of music ranging from jazz & standards, rhythm & blues, classic rock, adult contemporary and pop as well as original material. The group plays across the United States as well as abroad entertaining audiences with their world-class musicianship and high energy, fun-filled performances. For additional information on the U. S. The Art League is kicking off the festivities for the FREE Alexandria Festival for the Arts THIS SATURDAY, September 10 beginning at 10:00 am at Market Square (corner of King and North Fairfax Streets), and all are invited to come and join the festivities.

We will host a variety of free creative programs from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm at Market Square in Old Town Alexandria (corner of King & North Fairfax Streets) on both Saturday and Sunday. Fun, hands-on, art activities for all ages will be offered throughout the day along with demonstrations by nationally recognized artists. The weekend will also feature our popular Ice Cream Bowl Fundraiser, back for TWO days this year and with 1,000 bowls!!
