D.C. filmmaker Jason Baustin differs from his area counterparts in one important regard: He's not from around here. Jason moved to the D.C. area from Atlanta, Georgia to study Film and Digital Media at American University after some friends had told him about the program. After graduating, he decided to stay in the D.C. area to make films rather than opting for the oft chosen destinations of New York and Los Angeles.

Shortly removed from his studies at American, Jason got an offer to direct a feature film, an opportunity that would be the envy of most young filmmakers. Jason's directorial debut was a horror-comedy entitled Cowboy Killer, which is available at both Amazon and Netflix.

Shifting gears, Jason decided to explore different genres through short film. Jason's first effort is Gone Forever, a psychological drama that tells the story of a man who is haunted by the memory of his wife after her tragic death. Gone Forever will screen at one of the area's best venues, the AFI Silver, on Saturday April 16. Besides two free screenings of the film, there will also be a complimentary lunch. Check for screening details below.

When asked why he chose to remain in D.C. instead of going to NYC or L.A., Jason responded that he likes the area and that finding the resources to make movies is more important than geography. With two films under his belt, Jason is putting his money where his mouth is.
