Thomas Jefferson Tops Fairfax 6-5 In 3OT Thriller | News
ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA) -- The bleachers were rumbling, fans were cheering and the pressure was on when Thomas Jefferson attack Bohe Hosking scored the game-winning goal in the Colonials' match-up against Fairfax on Friday night.
"I thought I'd hit another pipe," said Hosking, whose goal actually soared into the net and ended the ferocious AAA Liberty District showdown, 6-5, in triple overtime. "I was elated ... I jumped as high as I've ever jumped in my life."
The junior's celebration was completely warranted as the dramatic finish reflected the game's intensity from the outset.
The Rebels (3-5) hit the field hungry for a win. They opened the first quarter with goals from senior attack Chris Haynes and senior midfielder Austin Perryman. Thomas Jefferson's defense answered with relentless pressure around the crease and exhibited great skill in clearing the ball.
By the end of the fourth quarter, Thomas Jefferson was clinging to a 5-4 lead. Perryman scored again, tying the game, 5-5, with less than a minute on the board.
As the seconds ticked by and the game rolled into one, then two and
finally three overtime periods, Fairfax goalie, senior Evan Schauss, and Jefferson goalie, junior Gordon
Hart, proved they are fearless defenders, especially under pressure.
"Even though it's a loss ... we'll take some confidence from this," said Fairfax head coach Ryan Brown.
The Rebels will take on Madison Thursday night while the Colonials will face off against Marshall.
Jefferson head coach Nick Worek said the Colonials have a lot to work on but he is enthusiastic about the remainder of the season. His squad, now 6-2, is garnering ever-growing support from the Jefferson student body.
"I love the confidence of our team and it's a little contagious," said Worek.
