ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA) -- The man accused of plotting to attack multiple Metro stations in Virginia and a D.C. Hotel appeared before a federal judge Friday.

Farooque Ahmed from Ashburn, was represented by a federal public defender during his detention hearing Friday afternoon. He did not contest detention.

Judge John F. Anderson ordered that Mr. Ahmed remain in custody pending further court action.

Ahmed did not say anything in court.  When he was being escorted out of the courtroom he glanced back at the corner of the room where it is believed his family, including his wife and child were sitting.  The woman waved to him.
