Detours & OnRamps: An Oct. 25th Forum On The Issues Facing Mothers In The Workplace

DETOURS AND ONRAMPS CONFERENCE OFFERS INSPIRATION AND NEXT STEPS

A resource for work-life balance, career restarting, and entrepreneurship.

In today’s economy, families are less willing to rely on one salary, and more mothers are considering a return to the workplace. Meanwhile, many women who have never taken a break from working find themselves looking for options to balance career and family pressure. There’s a constant struggle…and women are often left frustrated as a result.

On the up side, there are experts and resources out there to help. And finding them is a bit easier, thanks to an event coming for the first time to the Northern Virginia area this fall.

The Detours & OnRamps Forum, being held October 25, 2010, in Fairfax, is a one-day conference designed as a practical resource for working women, or those wishing to restart a career. The conference offers networking, discussions with the companies leading the way in solutions for work-life balance, expert panels, and dynamic sessions on some of the most common dilemmas faced by women—or anyone who is trying to make work, work for them.

Also covered are resources for entrepreneurs; all of the sessions are lead by women (and men!) who will share their own experiences and lessons learned. Ann Tardy, a nationally-known speaker, will address leading a life with “moxie!”; recruiters will provide a look at the employment landscape; an attorney will address how to negotiate in every part of your life (work AND home); there’s a primer on using social media to find a job—and even a lighthearted but very useful look at fall fashion trends and how to perk your wardrobe up.

The conference has a successful four-year history with events in the NYC area and Boston area. The agenda is designed to provide a jump start to a job search and the connections and resources to help with a career change or career “rebalance”. Said one attendee: “What an informative and well-thought out day; I not only picked up some new ideas but was also reminded of a lot of things I know but needed to be reminded of!”
