This was sent to us by Burgundy Farm Country Day School:

The Burgundy Farm Country Day School became the first integrated school in Virginia through active recruitment and enrollment of African American students in 1950, establishing itself as a campus that would forever celebrate diversity as a core value. It now boasts a student body and staff representing a variety of nations, religions, socioeconomic groups, sexual orientations and ethnicities.

The school's tradition of open-minded thinking, curiosity for new cultures, and overall tolerance for different customs and views continues on Tuesday, September 21, with the annual observance of the International Day of Peace.

Students from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade participating in discussions and activities that will inspire tolerance for and celebration of the various people and cultures that make our community so special. In addition to classroom discussions, the entire school will participate in singing "Lean on Me" and "Make New Friends" in the natural ampitheater. From 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., students will speak about what peace means to them; and, at 12:45 p.m. 284 students will use their bodies to spell out the word "peace.”
