Alexandria Responds to Aftermath of Storm

The city of Alexandria declared a local emergency yesterday in response to the harsh storms. Some of the top priorities late yesterday afternoon included clearing storm debris from the roads for easy access for emergency vehicles, and making sure residents stay in their homes and off the roads.

Alexandria will continue to respond to the severe storms that caused damage to property, fallen trees and power outages across the town. As of 6:30 a.m. this morning, Dominion Virginia Power reported that there were 10,600 power outages in Alexandria.

City crews have been working nonstop to remove debris from the roadways or public spaces; any debris on private property must be removed by the property owner. Dominion Power also continues to work around the clock to restore power to Alexandria homes. For school and government closures you can visit http://www.alexandriava.gov/Storm.
