RICHMOND, Va. (WUSA9) -- There was a major setback on Friday for supporters of abortion-rights in Virginia.  The State Board of Health approved strict, hospital-style building codes for abortion clinics, and operators say it could force many of them to close.  

The hearing took place Friday morning in Richmond, where opponents of the new regulations argued that board members are putting politics before medicine.  

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA9) -- Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Brian Proctor says today was the first step in holding 27-year old Kashif Bashir accountable.

Bashir appeared in court for a lengthy 3 1/2 hour preliminary hearing.

Prosecutors described what happened the day Alexandria Police Officer Peter Laboy was shot in the head. They described what happened just around the corner from the courthouse at a boutique interior design store that set off the horrible chain of events on South St. Asaph Street.

The ex cab driver for Alexandria yellow cab is charged with shooting motorcycle officer Peter Laboy in the head back in late February.

Prosecutors brought detectives, investigators, a forensic expert and a teacher to the stand.

A witness had her Lyles Crouch Traditional Academy 1st graders on the playground. She described how she yelled for them to 'run' inside when she heard the gunshot and saw Officer Laboy crumble to the ground.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA9) -- Fairfax County police officials say a Maryland woman was arrested Monday and charged with bribery of a school official.

According to police, 38-year-old Angeline Nkar of Maryland allegedly gave a school official cash in an apparent attempt to influence a personnel decision. The incident took place in the 8400 block of Fort Hunt Road last Wednesday.

Police would not say provide details about the decision Nkar was allegedly trying to influence.
