Va. Legislation Would Make Bullying A Crime At Schools

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA) --  "The sheriff said, 'There's no reason to investigate because there's no law against bullying.'  So it's time we had a law against bullying here in Virginia," said Delegate Adam Ebbin (D-Alexandria).

Ebbin is referring to the suicide of 16-year-old-Christian Taylor.  The Yorktown, Virginia, teenager hanged himself  on Memorial Day after reportedly enduring months of relentless bullying.

Ebbin has introduced a bill that would make bullying illegal at Virginia public schools, universities and colleges.

Army Contractor Charged With Stabbing In Kandahar

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) -- Federal prosecutors say a South African who is a U.S. Army contractor in Afghanistan has been charged with stabbing a man at Kandahar Airfield in Afghanistan.

Forty-four-year-old Sean Brehm of Western Cape, South Africa, was indicted on Wednesday by a federal grand jury in Virginia. He is charged with assault in the Nov. 25 incident; further details on the stabbing were not available.

Prosecutors say Brehm was working as a contractor for DynCorp International LLC, a U.S. Army contractor in Afghanistan. Brehm was charged in a criminal complaint on Dec. 9 and was brought to the U.S. on Dec. 21.

Brehm is charged under a statute that gives U.S. courts jurisdiction to prosecute crimes committed outside the United States by contractors or subcontractors of the Department of Defense.

Dinner AND a Movie for $50?! La Tasca in Rockville Makes It Happen

Dinner and a movie for $50?! That seems unheard of by today’s standards, but La Tasca restaurant in Rockville, MD is making it happen.

Now at La Tasca you can have dinner and a movie for two all for $50. The package includes:

1 Starter Dish

5 Tapas

1 Dessert to share

2 Movie Tickets to ANY Regal Cinema with absolutely NO expiration date.

I spoke with La Tasca Manager Mariana Pisciottano to find out more about her restaurant and current promotions.

“We opened about 4 years ago. I love this location and we have a good response from the Rockville community. All of [Rockville Town Center] was still under construction when we started. We have pretty good business, but I feel like it’s getting better and better every year. 2010 was a great year for us,” says Pisciottano.

Derek McGinty: The Quest For Hair

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA) -- For more than a decade I've had no need for combs or shampoo.   I don't have hair on my head, and at this point honestly, I'm over it.

But lately I've been wondering how far the technology has come since I first noticed my growing bald spot all those years ago.  I found out when we paid a visit to the Hair Loss Clinic in Alexandria.

Trichologist, or hair loss expert, Bobby Spence showed off everything from his low level laser therapy to some new versions of old favorites like Minoxidil or Rogaine.

They also have some pretty realistic looking hair pieces that glue on to your scalp and won't embarrass you, if you're willing to plop down $500 or more to have one.

Metro Riders Question Bag Screening Policy

WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- Nearly 100 people packed a board room at Metro headquarters to voice their concerns about the random, voluntary bag checks.

Monday night's meeting was held by the Metro Riders Advisory Council to discuss the inspections Metro began conducting at rail station and bus bay entrances last month.

"I don't think they're necessary," said one rider.

"As long as it makes me safe," countered another.

"They're not really voluntary if you need to have it in order to get to where you want to go," said another rider.

According to Metro, you can refuse the bag check, but you will not be able to ride the Metro.

Metro Police Capt. Kevin Gaddis said no one refused officers when they conducted screenings at Metro stations on two days last month and so far feedback has been positive.
